Why build an engine?

When looking at the landscape of available game engines nothing really matched our needs. They were either designed for large shops or folks that were newer to programming.

 

Engine performance and developer experience is critical and non-negotiable features sets for us. Nothing out there gave us the developer workflow we wanted while also meeting the performance needs the type of games we are building require.

 

Unlike many studios we can afford to ship a year or two later if it means building on the right foundation. So here we are building a game engine at the same time we build a game.
